The needs of life

Day off and home with kids. They are here watching television while I write. They are watching PBS kids, my son can watch television all day while my daughter loves to write, color, draw and play teacher. He does love sports and being outdoors. They are twins but have very different personalities which we love. This week we decorated pumpkins and they made such a mess but enjoyed every minute of it.

We try to do things together as a family because children will remember time spent with one another more than anything in the world. I remember Sundays were family day when I was a child because my Father owned a Liquor store and he worked long hours day and night. We would go to church, visit family and friends, go to the park depending on the season, the store to shop, different beaches but the best memories were when we went to the Dominican Republic for a month or so every two years.

What I am trying to say is that childhood is a short period of time but the most important time of someone's life cycle. We need to treat our kids with respect so they can learn how to respect others. We need to love them so they can love others. We need to spend time with them so they can remember the time spent together. I have to say as a working mom it is hard to balance family, work, household chores, husband, social, friends, and time for yourself. It is hard but I can see that being at home with them and see exactly what they are doing creates and gives me a piece of mind. They are now resting while watching television but later we will color, read and just play because that is what kids should be doing playing. My house is a mess because it doesn't matter how much I want to clean, the house will become a mess in matter of minutes. You see I am still learning each day how to be a parent, especially a mom of twins. Everything is double, double this, double that. Double the laundry which I have one load washing now and a load in the dryer and more loads that will get done later or this weekend. Two running around. If one starts crying and yelling the other follows along. They do love each other, they hug, they dance, they play, and grow up together which I love. I am always tired, tired and tired but every parent will say the same thing. Being a parent is not easy, it's a learning process so let's not judge other parents without being in their shoes. We are not perfect but I can say is that I try my best, love them and would like to protect them from anything that is negative. You see kids need to feel safe, they need to feel protected, loved and nourished. As a mother and teacher, I see that children connect with others when they feel safe, connected and nurtured. Sometimes I feel like just staying home because with this crazy world we live in all you want to do is stay home with your family. Life is crazy out there, it's getting crazier each day. All we can have is hope. Hope that the future will get better, safer and hope that people can love more and hate less.

My goal for this year was to stay away from negativity. My goal was to be around people and things that lift people up. People that love you and respect you. People and things that create a welcoming environment. An environment that creates peace, unity and community. This has to start early on, we can't wait for two weeks, months or years to create a nurturing environment. It has to start immediately so kids and people can be able to trust each other. Communication is very important because without communication we then start to assume, judge, or have opinions versus facts. There is a difference between opinions and facts. Huge differences.. you see I am not perfect, I'm not trying to be but I am learning each day. My goal for this year will continue each day and each year because we need to be around people that makes you and your family grow and flourish.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE
